2023surely you’re joking was a solo exhibition that attempted to articulate the existential chaos of having a body amid rapid technological advancements. In it, I questioned the burgeoning cultural embrace of invasive body modification as a gateway for transhumanist optimization. The desire to transcend our humanness can be seen as a liberatory exercise in autonomy but to what end? The explosive progress of artificial intelligence over the past few years seems to have ignited a widespread fear of obsolescence, bringing humans to question who we might become when our labour is rendered inefficient.
