Awakening emerged in response to the physical isolation and digital intimacy that defined the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This video triptych follows the healing journey of Mika Maxx, a character desperately seeking connection by any means necessary—whether through fringe theorists, cult-like courses led by virtual mystics, or even the governmental agents surveilling her via smart home technology. The piece explores the vulnerabilities of this era, examining the intersecting forces of surveillance, wellness culture, and the spread of mis- and disinformation.
