Dark and Lonely

Dark and Lonely was a mixed-media installation that highlighted the intricate links between Black womanhood, beauty, mental health, and survival. Using the popular hair relaxer "Dark and Lovely" as its starting point, Dark and Lonely critiqued the overarching systems that necessitate the use of relaxers while empathizing with Black women who feel pressured to assimilate as a way to cope with the social world they, and their hair, inhabit.
