Screensaviour
2024 —Screensaviour is an ongoing exploration of how the meaning behind digital images continues to evolve. With the ubiquity of digital photography in contemporary culture, the instrinsic value of digital images has been reduced, leaving them free for harvest by artificial systems. Screenshots resist algorithmic hegemony by freezing the interface, relieving the image of active data extraction. Despite inhabiting the same realm of impossibility as the generative image, the screenshot's ability to capture a moment in time becomes an antidote to the unreality of synthetic media. It is through the screen's gaze that we find truth and freedom from digital optimization.
