THIS IS YOU

A motion graphic exploring the persona as simulacrum.

LOL, IDK?

2016
Everyone seems to point out the superficiality of social media by scorning it and emphasizing the way it distracts us from our humanity, but they don't seem to realize it's an extension of ourselves. What I share on social media generally reflects who I think I am. But what defines who a person is, anyway? Their interests? The music they listen to? The social groups they're a part of? How they dress? I don't really know. Everything we find meaningful and definitive are subjective... which is kind of awesome.

LA PETITE MORT

2015
A piece inspired by the work of Bill Viola, who deals with themes surrounding the human experience, consciousness, and spirituality. He uses dualism to explore these things. Two things that I think are dualistic, but share a similarity, are sex and death. One deals with the creation of life, and the other deals with its end.

I believe that they both involve a release or transcendence of spirit. With sex, it's the transcendence experienced through climax, and with death it is the literal release and transcendence of the spirit/consciousness.

La petite mort is a euphemism for orgasm in French, though it literally means "the little death".
